Report: Glocal Tourism Network: The Fourth Seminar, “Turning Waste into Tourism Resources in Palau – Toward Circular Economy” was held

On June 25, 2024, PIC held the fourth seminar “Turning Waste into Tourism Resources in Palau – Toward Circular Economy” at the Glocal Tourism Network (the “Network”), which was jointly established with Kaihatsu Management Consulting Inc.
(Number of registered participants: 110)
(For more information on the “Network”, please click here: https://pic.or.jp/en/archives/6779/)

Mr. Fuji, who has been working for environmental protection in Palau from the perspective of waste disposal and recycling as a consultant for the Solid Waste Management Office in Koror, Palau, for many years, joined us to talk about his current project, Belau Eco Glass Center (glass studio), a facility dedicated to recycling waste bottles into beautiful glass artifacts. These glass crafts are sold to tourists as souvenirs.

Many questions were asked during the seminar, and participants from other Pacific Island Countries also asked questions on how to introduce this system in their countries. We believe that the three keywords of waste disposal, environment, and tourism, which are issues unique to the Pacific Islands, helped to arouse the interest of the participants.

※This seminar is certified as “PALM 10 (the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting) Commemorative Project”.
