The tourism industry, which has supported the local economy in island regions as a key industry for a long time, was heavily damaged due to the impact of COVID-19 since2020. The Pacific Islands Countries and the islands area in Japan have been particularly dependent on the tourism industry in terms of economic growth, and it is still greatly affected by COVID-19 as of October 2022. It is required to recover the tourism industry as soon as possible, as well as to improve the sustainability and resilience of their tourism industry in consideration of the possible risks such as pandemics.
Under such a circumstance, PIC together with Kaihatsu Management Consulting, Inc. have decided to establish ”The Sustainable Glocal Tourism Platform for Pacific Islands & Japan (PF) “. The aim is to strengthen the economic, social, and environmental resilience of the islands through sustainable tourism development that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of the islands in the Pacific regions and Japan. The PF will be operated as a mini-PF so called “Meet-up” as a pilot activity in November 2022 and will be fully operational as a PF from FY2023.
And this memorable first Meet-up was held on November 16. Unlike seminars where anyone can participate freely, this is a place where a limited number of participants can actively exchange views, so the details of the contents are shared only by the participants. If you are interested in the PF, please contact PIC (info@pic.or.jp) or Kaihatsu Management Consulting, Inc. (takanashi.naoki@kmcinc.co.jp).
