The PIC in collaboration with Palau Visitors Authority Japan Office and UNWTO Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific will host an online seminar titled “Covid-19 impacts and perspectives on tourism sector in the Pacific” on 16th December 2021.
Tourism is one of the most important economic activities in the world. It is to say that many people move and interact with each other to experience the culture and nature of the country, revitalizing the economy and enabling the country to prosper. In that sense, the global pandemic of Covid-19, which began in 2020, has hit the tourism industry, hindering global growth. The pandemic crisis has had a major impact on developed countries, but its economic impact is even greater in the Pacific Island countries.
In this seminar, from the above background, UNWTO will give a lecture on post covid-19 tourism trends in the world, followed by the presentation by PIC on the impact of tourism sector in the Pacific, and finally Palau Tourism Authority will explain the current tourism situation and future recovering measures from Japan to Palau, where is the most tourism-oriented country in the Pacific.
