Report: Online meeting was held between PIC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Solomon

On 20th of August 2021, PIC held an online meeting with the Solomon Islands Government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, MFAET). This meeting, with the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands, was held at the request of the Solomon Islands Government which has been aiming to improving its foreign export as one of the economy-salvaging solutions in anticipation of the post-COVID economy.

This was the first meeting with the Solomon Islands Government and the meeting contents were as follows. MFAET explained about their role and background of aiming the improvement of foreign export. PIC introduced its organization and achievement so far while gave explanation about the support forms by PIC and import situation from Pacific Island Countries to Japan. Finally, PIC introduced Pacific Island Countries’ private sectors’ business development in Japan in order to paint a picture of how to enter into the Japanese Market.

The participants shared the same recognition of the necessity of regular meeting for exchanging views as much as possible. MFAET ensured to play a central role in holding the joint meeting with PIC for the expansion of business between Japan and the Solomon Islands in cooperation with related governmental organizations such as Ministry of Commerce.
