On January 21, 2026, the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC) delivered a lecture on Pacific Island Countries at Tokai University’s Shinagawa Campus for 25 third- and fourth-year students of Dr. Kurosaki Seminar from the Faculty of Tourism.
The lecture provided an overview of Pacific Island Countries, focusing on their appeal as tourism destinations as well as the challenges they face in developing sustainable tourism. PIC also introduced its tourism promotion initiative, the Pacific Discovery Project, implemented in 2025, sharing project highlights and videos to showcase the rich tourism resources and on-the-ground realities of the islands.
In the latter half of the session, students actively participated in discussions on travel perceptions among younger generations, key factors in choosing travel destinations, and the role of social media in tourism. A wide range of opinions and questions were raised, leading to a lively and insightful exchange between students and the lecturer.
The session offered a valuable opportunity to explore tourism from multiple perspectives while deepening students’ understanding of and interest in Pacific Island Countries.
