〔Event Report〕The 31st Pacific Islanders Club Meeting Held

On Tuesday, 9 December 2025, the 31st Pacific Islanders Club (PIC) Meeting was successfully held. As with the previous meeting, we maintained a similar scale, welcoming approximately 50 participants from various sectors. The event provided an engaging forum for open discussions and networking throughout.

■ Session 1: Dialogue Session — “The Country of Tuvalu: Traveling Through the Pacific Islands”
The first part featured a dialogue between Mr. Kanta Hara, an influencer who visited Tuvalu as part of PIC’s tourism promotion initiative, the Pacific Discovery Project, and Mr. Yasuki Shimomura, the project manager who accompanied him.
Drawing on their experiences in Tuvalu, they discussed the gap between the country’s realities and its common image, as well as thought-provoking questions such as whether “advanced development” truly leads to happiness. The session was very well received, with many participants requesting the opportunity to share comments following the dialogue.

■ Session 2: Networking Session
In the second part, the networking session began with congratulatory remarks by Mr. Kitagawa, Director for the Oceania Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, followed by a toast offered by Professor Izumi Kobayashi of Osaka Gakuin University. Participants actively engaged with one another, leading to lively exchanges and meaningful interaction.

PIC will continue its efforts to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen collaboration between Pacific Island Countries and Japan by creating further opportunities for dialogue and exchange.
