On 27 November 2025, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the “Japan–Pacific Islands Business Partnership Seminar” as part of its ongoing study to develop strategies for strengthening economic cooperation with Pacific Island countries.
The seminar opened with remarks by Mr. Ochi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, followed by greetings from Mr. Kitagawa, Director of Oceania Division, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Saito, Director of Pacific Islands Centre (PIC). Subsequently, six Japanese companies delivered interim reports and presented their future business plans.
Government representatives from seven Pacific Island Countries — Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu — also gave presentations outlining their current situations and emerging investment opportunities.
In the second part of the program, a networking session was held for government and private-sector participants. The event provided a valuable opportunity for information exchange and strengthened connections between Japan and the Pacific Island Countries.
