On November 4, 2025, The PNG–Japan Business and Investment Conference, hosted by the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) of Papua New Guinea, and co-hosted by the Embassy of Papua New Guinea in Japan and the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC), was successfully held at the ANA InterContinental Tokyo.

The event brought together a wide range of participants, including senior officials from the Government of Papua New Guinea, representatives from the Embassy, Japanese government officials, and business leaders from both countries.

Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Leon Buskens, Chairman of IPA, followed by guest remarks from Mr. Shintaro Kitagawa, Director for Oceania Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Japan), and Mr. Ikko Watanabe, Director for India and Pacific Region, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Japan). Mr. Ryuzo Saito, Director of PIC, and Ms. Magdalene Shirley Moihe, Minister (Deputy Head of Mission), Embassy of Papua New Guinea in Japan, also addressed the audience. Presentations included an overview of Papua New Guinea’s business environment by Mr. Clarence Hoot, Managing Director of IPA, and a keynote by Mr. Mikio Hataeda, Special Advisor to the President of JICA, highlighting investment and ODA outlooks in the East Asia–Pacific region.

The morning panel session 1 featured discussions with representatives from PNG’s key government agencies, followed by a session 2 that highlighted private sector perspectives and business opportunities, with speakers from both PNG and Japan.

Participants also enjoyed a networking lunch and took part in thematic breakout and networking sessions in the afternoon, covering sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy, mining, and trade.

On the following day, November 5, individual B2B and B2G meetings were held at the Embassy of Papua New Guinea in Japan, offering further opportunities for business and partnership discussions.

The conference served as a meaningful platform to strengthen the economic and trade ties between Papua New Guinea and Japan, fostering deeper understanding and collaboration between the two nations.
