On 10 September 2025, the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) will host the International Symposium “Towards Sustainable Development and International Cooperation: Papua New Guinea at 50 Years of Independence”.

Marking the 50th anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence, the symposium will examine the country’s current challenges in achieving sustainable development, including its regulatory environment and climate change measures, while also exploring its growing role as a major resource-exporting nation.

The event is co-sponsored by the Pacific Islands Center (PIC), with PIC Director Mr. Saito participating as one of the speakers.
