Announcement of the first thematic-subcommittee meeting and the first seminar of the Japan-Pacific Islands Glocal Tourism Network

The “Japan and Pacific Islands Glocal Tourism Network” (hereinafter referred to as the “Network”), organized by Pacific Islands Center (PIC) & Kaihatsu Management Consulting (KMC), was launched in October 2023!

As the first activity of the Network, the thematic-subcommittee and the seminar will be held as follows. Those interested in “tourism” in both Japan and the Pacific islands are welcome to this activity. The subcommittee and seminar will be online (Zoom), so we hope you can join to the discussions and lectures of the speakers and find opportunities for future relations between Japan and the Pacific Island countries.

The details of the event outline are as follows. Please note that there is an application form for each.

The First Thematic-subcommittee: “Tourism Development Utilizing Local Resources” (Kozu-islands x Fiji)

In this subcommittee, the Tourism Fiji and the Kozu-islands Tourism Bureau will share case studies on “Tourism Development Utilizing Local Resources.” In addition to the case studies, they will also discuss “points to be improved” and “local resources that could be used for tourism projects in the future.” The purpose of this session is to share the wisdom of the presenters and participants on how to further develop tourism and what kind of new tourism projects can be considered by utilizing local resources, aiming to create innovative tourism projects.

The First Seminar: “Sustainable Tourism Product Development in the Pacific Islands” (UNWTO RSOAP)

The World Tourism Organization Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNWTO RSOAP) will join us to analyse the resources, opportunities, and challenges for sustainable tourism product development in the Pacific Islands, as well as share several good practices as case studies. This is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the characteristics and needs of the Pacific Islands.
