PIC’s Director visited Papua New Guinea

Mr. Saito, Director, Pacific Islands Center (PIC) visited Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Lae, the second largest city in the country, for 10 days from February 13th to 23rd. As for PIC, this was the first visit in 3 and half years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main objectives of the visit were to hear about updated PNG industrial and trade policies, develop new initiatives between Japan and PNG in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism, and explore business opportunities in renewable energy.

He met with many people from the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), with whom we have worked together for many years, and from PNG government departments/authorities such as Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Department of Commerce and Industry. He also visited private companies of PNG and Japan.

Based on the results of this visit, PIC hopes to further strengthen its support for a wide range of business development between PNG and Japan in cooperation with the people concerned in both countries.
