On May 8th, Saturday, the second seminar was held online by Pacific Fan Community, titled “The Pacific on the earth-Politics, Economy, Foreign Diplomacy and the Relation between Japan and the Pacific”. Mr.Saito, Director of PIC, gave a lecture at the seminar, which was designated as a commemorative project of the 9th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting(PALM9) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with about 50 participants.
The representative of PFC gave an opening remarks and Mr. Kurosaki, Tokai University Lecturer of Contemporary Liberal Arts Center, hosted the seminar.
For the first session, Mr.Shiozawa, Senior Program Officer for Pacific Island Nations Fund of Sasakawa Peace Foundation talked about historical background of politics and foreign diplomacy of Pacific Island Countries, titled “Various Thoughts of Pacific Island Region”.
Director Saito spoke about the current situation and challenges of trade, investment and tourism between Japan and Pacific Island Countries based on a wide variety of statistic data and hands-on information from PIC activities, with the title “Exchange between Japan and Pacific Islands – from the view point of business”.
As for the second session, Mr. Kurosaki moderated the panel discussion focusing on the initiatives aimed for strengthening relationships between Japan and Pacific Island Countries including the trend of PALM9, based on the preliminary questions from participants.
PIC plans to develop schemes toward PALM9, through the good cooperation with and among other organizations.
