Greetings from Embassy of the Republic of Fiji, Tokyo.
The Fiji Embassy in Tokyo (FET) has launched an appeal for the Tropical Cyclone Yasa Relief Appeal Fund to provide assistance to the victims of the Category 5 – Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
Tropical Cyclone Yasa – the strongest storm in the basin since TC Winston in 2016 and the strongest in the cyclone season 2020-21 – brought gusts of wind of up to 345km per hour, causing flooding and landslides. Fiji’s second-largest island Vanua Levu and coastal areas of many islands were impacted by storm surges and flooding during the height of the storm on the 17th of December 2020.
In response to this disaster, the Fijian Government together with its domestic and international partners are working hard to coordinate recovery and rehabilitation efforts. There is a great need for additional resources to urgently address the needs of affected Fijians and assist with the rebuilding process.
The full cost of the damage suffered by the people of Fiji will not be known for a few weeks as the relief assessment teams are currently working hard with the limited resources they have and with the assistance from donor countries to span the whole of affected Fiji. However, the cost of damage is estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars.
The FET welcomes any financial contribution/donation towards the Tropical Cyclone Yasa Relief Appeal Fund, which will be channelled to the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund for TC Yasa, to support the Fijian Government’s work in the rehabilitation efforts and assistance for those whose homes and livelihoods have been affected. In seeking assistance for those affected, we are reminded of the bible’s assurance for those that give a helping hand to those in need – ‘Give and it shall be given to you’ – Luke 6: 38.

駐日フィジー共和国大使館は、被害者を支援するために熱帯低気圧「ヤサ」救済アピール基金のアピールを開始しました。
令和２年12月17日にフィジーを襲った熱帯低気圧ヤサは、カテゴリー５に値する暴風雨サイクロンでした。2016年のサイクロン・ウィンストン以来、最大のサイクロンで風力は最高時速345ｋｍ（およそ秒速96ｍ）を記録しました。その結果、フィジーで2番目に大きい島、バヌアレブ島や多くの島々の沿岸地域では、高潮と洪水の被害を受けました。
この被害に対し、フィジー政府は国内外の支援を受け全力をあげての復旧作業に臨んでおりますが、一日も早い復興のために、皆様のご協力を必要としております。
フィジー政府は、支援国と共に、多数の負傷者、家屋や学校の倒壊、通信手段の切断など、数々の被害を把握するように努めています。被害の全貌が明白になるには数週間が必要です。しかし、被害の総額は数億ドルになるとと報告されています。
フィジー政府はこの大被害により、家や財産を失った人々、そして遠隔地に住む人々へのライフラインの一日も早い復旧、復興のために皆様からの寄付を呼びかけています。
駐日フィジー共和国大使館は、これを受けて、サイクロン・ヤサによる被害に対しての皆様からの募金のご協力をお願いしています。皆様からの寄付金は、サイクロン・ヤサ被害のための「国立災害復旧復興基金 」に送金され、サイクロンによって、家や生活の基盤を失ったフィジー全土の多くの人々の生活を再建するために使われます。ご支援をお願いするにあたって、ルカの福音書6章38節を引用致します。「与えなさい。そうすれば自分も与えられます。」
皆様からの寄付は、多くのフィジー人の今後数週間の生活に大きく寄与致します。
