ミクロネシア連邦特命全権大使ジョン・フリッツJohn FritzAmbassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiaryof the Federated States of Micronesia祝辞 Congratulatory message 太平洋諸島センター（PIC）の設立25周年となる歴史的イベントを迎えるにあたり、お祝い申し上げます。PICは1996年に設立され、その後25年間さまざまな活動を続けています。まずはPIC設立に際し、献身と努力を尽くされた方々に、そして、たゆまぬ努力を継続しておられる現所長及びスタッフの皆様方にその功績を称えるとともに心からの敬意を表します。 この歴史的な節目において、PICの任務を確実に遂行する上で、日本政府及び太平洋諸島フォーラム（PIF）のメンバーの皆様方から多大なご支援と貢献をいただいたことに対しても、改めて感謝申し上げます。日本とPIFはPICを設立することで、貿易、投資、観光の促進を通じて島嶼国の持続可能な経済発展を重要視してきました。そのことは、日本・太平洋諸島首脳会議（PALM）の中でも認識され各国首脳も常に期待されているところとなっています。また、その期待に沿うべくPALMの枠組みを通じて良好な協力関係を構築してきた功績に対しても敬意を表するところです。 昨今、世界に劇的な変化をもたらしている新型コロナウイルスによるパンデミック（COVID-19）に対しても、PICは常に最良と思われる方法で適切にこの難題に対応しており、PICの活動が常に前向きに成長し続けていることは私たちにとって大変大きな励みとなります。PICの活動実績においても、特に日本の経済界と島嶼国（FICs）との事業交流の増加に大きな進展がありました。この先、島嶼国 （FICs）と日本企業がこの強い「絆」を維持し、更に強固なものとしていくとともに、新しい事業を開発・発展させていくなかでPICが重要な役割を果たしていくことを私たちは心から期待しております。 改めて、これまでの25年間の努力と成果に敬意を表し、心よりお祝いを申し上げます。 On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of Pacific Islands Centre (PIC), I extend my warmest heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Director and the Staff of PIC. In commemorating this historic event, it is likewise, important to pause and give recognition and pay respect to those who founded PIC, formerly called the South Pacific Economic Exchange Support Centre and for those who have put efforts and dedication by carrying the emblem of PIC for the 25 years of services. On this historic event, it is also fitting to recognize and acknowledge the tremendous support and contribution from the Government of Japan and the Members of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) in ensuring the mandate of the Centre is carried forward as instituted 25 years ago. In establishing the organization, they have placed great importance in sustainable economic development through the promotion of trade, investments and tourism between Japan and the Forum Island Countries (FICs)--one of the important pillars of Japan-PIF cooperation through the Japan-Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) framework. With the increasing dramatic changes in the world today, coupled with the deathly corona virus pandemic (COVID-19), PIC has taken appropriate steps by adapting innovative approaches to meet these challenges. It is truly encouraging to witness the positive developments taking place in the work of PIC over the years. Much progresses have been made in the implementation of its activities particularly in the increasing number of business interactions between the business communities in Japan and the FICs. It is for these reasons that we have high hopes that PIC continues to play a pivotal role, not only in strengthening the existing business bonds, but also in developing and promoting new ones, through further creating pathways for the local businesses in Japan with the businesses in the FICs. Congratulations again to PIC and the staff for the hard work and achievements for these past 25 years. 7
