【REPORT】:Successfully dispatched Japan-Palau Public-Private Joint Business Mission-Active exchange with Palau Government Officials and Private Sectors

The Japan-Palau Public-Private Joint Business Mission (headed by Mr. Suzuki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan), which was composed of the Ministry, JETRO, and JICA as well as 18 private companies and organizations, was dispatched to Palau from Dec 4th to Dec 6th, 2018. PIC played a key role in this mission acting as a coordinator of those 18 private companies and organizations for the successful completion of whole program.

This mission was dispatched based on the* PALM 8 Leaders’ Declaration, which confirmed the continuous promotion of trade, investment, and tourism between Pacific Island Countries and Japan. Through active exchange of views among public and private involved parties and site inspection of local companies, this mission served as a significant opportunity to explore scheme for further expansion of exchange, trade, and investment between Palau and Japan.

The mission tour started at making a courtesy visit to President of Republic of Palau, H.E. Mr. Remengesau. Followed by a lot of plans such as “Japan-Palau Trade, Investment and Tourism Seminar”, Reception, Business Networking Session, and Site Inspection Tour.

Especially at the seminar, Japanese private companies that are active in the fields of trade, investment, and tourism as well as Palauan ones and governmental agencies took turns to do presentations about their business. There was a great interest from both sides; the seminar offered a perfect window of opportunity through active exchange of views for both parties.

On the second day, there was the Business Networking Session where the representatives of Palauan private companies and governmental agencies could exchange opinions and information with the Japanese companies individually and concretely.
